Diabetes (Type 1)

Diabetes is a condition affecting the way sugar in your blood is used. It means that the hormone controlling the blood sugar is not working properly or not even being made by the body.

There are two main types of diabetes – Type 1 which is normally a condition of the young and often called an autoimmune disease (your own body destroys its own cells)

Type 2 which is normally a condition affecting adults and

caused by lifestyle choices such as unhealthy eating, no

exercise, alcohol and smoking.

Type 1 is caused because of a genetic reason or can be triggered by a viral infection. Whatever the reason, you have very little control over having type 1 diabetes. However type 2 diabetes is preventable.
